CBD & The Brain

As we know by now, CBD interacts with our bodies on both a physical and emotional level. But how exactly does CBD work when interacting with the brain?

How does CBD affects the brain?

Our brain is responsible for making sure we have stable moods by creating the right amount of neurotransmitters. Two of these neurotransmitters are called ‘serotonin and dopamine’. They are active and present when we are feeling happy and not present as much when we are feeling depressed or sick. CBD reaches the brain by entering through the bloodstream. Once CBD reaches the brain, it interacts with your opioid and dopamine receptors. This results in less pain – as your opioid receptor is in charge of pain and discomfort – and better moods, energy and focus – as your dopamine receptor is in charge of behaviour and cognition.

Particular drugs, such as antidepressants have been created to basically help the brain decrease the pace of the process by which serotonin is reused by nerve cells that make it. This creates a surge in serotonin, often leading to a better mood. However, scientists now believe that perhaps CBD can do the same job and be used instead.

Does CBD help with Memory and focus

Research has shown that CBD can also improve memory, as well as concentration levels. It can help slow the progression of cruel diseases such as Alzheimer’s and other forms of Dementia. This works by the anti-inflammatory properties CBD has. Inflammation within the brain can reduce greatly when ingesting CBD.

How can you ingest CBD and how much should you take?

If you are interested in improving your overall brain health, CBD is for you. There are many ways to ingest CBD and we have a variety of options available. The most popular form of ingesting your daily dose is using a tincture. This involves placing a few drops of CBD oil under the tongue and holding it for 30-60 seconds before swallowing. The oil is able to reach the bloodstream the quickest using this method. If you don’t love the taste of CBD oil (though we also have delicious flavoured oils), then perhaps CBD gummies are for you. They are sweets infused with CBD and are very palatable. You can also opt for creams, lotions, body washes and balms that feel lovely on your skin, while also being ingested through the skin. In terms of doses, experts recommend starting on the lowest dose and building your way up if necessary. Everyone is different and some people feel the effects from a lower dose while others need a higher dose to reap the benefits.
